How Much Do Private Boxing Lessons Cost in the Bay Area?

By Jamal Valdez-Allen, Head Coach · · Updated

It's one of the first questions people ask, so here's a straight answer — plus what you should be getting for your money.

Our rates

  • Drop-in private lesson: $120 for 60 minutes.
  • 5-pack: $499 — $99.80 per session, saving $101.
  • 10-pack: $949 — $94.90 per session, saving $251.
  • Small group (2–4 people): $160 per session — $40 to $80 per person.

Rates are the same at Lightning Boxing Club in Oakland and for mobile sessions. Youth scholarships are available.

What affects the price of boxing lessons

  • Coach experience. Someone who has cornered fighters and taught for decades will spot and fix problems faster.
  • Private vs. group. Group classes cost less per hour but give you a fraction of the attention.
  • Location. Mobile coaching saves you the commute and gym membership.
  • Packages. Committing to a block of sessions almost always lowers the per-session rate.

How to get the most from every session

  1. Train consistently. Once or twice a week beats a burst of sessions followed by a month off.
  2. Do the homework. Ten minutes of shadowboxing and footwork between sessions makes the next hour count double.
  3. Share a session. Training with a partner or friend in a small group lowers your cost while keeping individual feedback.

Is it worth it?

If you want to actually learn to box — not just sweat — private coaching is the most efficient way to do it. You'll build safe technique, real fitness and confidence, on your schedule.
