Private Boxing Lessons in Oakland: What to Expect Your First Session
When you walk into Lightning Boxing Club in Oakland, you’ll hear jump ropes, pads popping, and coaches giving cues. If you’re new, breathe—we’ll keep it simple and build you up safely.
I’m Jamal Valdez-Allen. I’ve coached pros and amateurs for 30 years in the Bay Area. Your first private session is about two things: foundation and confidence.
What we’ll cover
- Stance & guard: where your feet live, how your hands protect you.
- Footwork: small steps so you’re balanced before you punch.
- The jab: the punch that sets the table for everything else.
- Defense: how to see shots and stay calm—parry, slip, catch.
- Pad rounds: controlled combos to learn timing and distance.
You’ll leave with drills for home, clear cues we’ll repeat next time, and a realistic plan for progress.
